Reviews and Testimonials
Hundreds of children and adults have used Help with Handwriting resources to help their children reach their handwriting goals.
Here’s what some of those parents, teachers and Senco’s have to say about their experience of working with me and using my handwriting practice worksheets.
My 8 year old son has struggled in class for some time, despite being very bright and able, because he simply failed to produce written work. He was failing in school as a result. Sheilagh is friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Both we and the school found her easy to work with, and she offered practical suggestions on how to help our son. Sheilagh’s approach to our son was both warm and encouraging so, even when he found some tasks tricky, he tried his best for her. She assessed his needs and raised potential concerns where additional expert help was needed as she could see he had extra needs (that weren’t handwriting related). She produced a clear report that was easy to understand and highlighted his handwriting needs. Sheilagh also produced a manageable six week programme for school that fitted well into their timetable. Since the programme started, my son’s handwriting has improved and he feels much happier. He even won a drawing contest at school. I wholeheartedly recommend Sheilagh to anyone whose child is struggling in school where they find handwriting difficult.
Sheilagh you have really helped my son and his class teachers. They are taken onboard your advice and Ralph is really working hard on maintain his pincer grip. Your sessions were very child friendly and imaginative, Ralph enjoyed the 1-1 attention and this approach was certainly the best method for him. we have really appreciated your help and I feel much more confident in being able to support Ralph with his handwriting. Thank you very much.
My daughter has gained self confidence and enjoyment of writing rather than approaching it with dread and rather than just dismissing all her handwriting as ‘rubbish’ she is now able to note areas of neatness and skill which has built on her self esteem. Finally, the handwriting report written by Sheilagh has helped teachers and teaching assistants as she moves through school to approach my daughter in a more helpful way; not putting pressure on her to write quickly or write joined up but accepting her limitations and being more positive and encouraging with her. Thank you Sheilagh.
Sheilagh has the warmest and easiest of styles both for the parent and child.
Ollie instantly felt at ease with Sheilagh and the assessment went very quickly for him as Sheilagh engaged him quickly and made it fun. Sheilagh quickly built a rapport with Ollie and we would recommend her in a flash!’

My daughter went from zero to hero in a matter of weeks , she is now writing very confidently as well as excelling in her work at school. I highly recommend this course its worth every penny Thank you so much Sheilagh P.S. She misses the Skype calls she has with yourself.
Sheilagh Blyth is a highly professional, well prepared, knowledgeable and clear presenter. Her day course on Handwriting was outstanding and teachers’ comments and evaluations were highly appreciative. We are already looking forward to her next course.
I’ve been on several courses including the NHS 5-day handwriting course (which technically makes me a handwriting tutor). But this was the first by an OT. The emphasis seemed a lot more practical, child-friendly and based on a developmental approach rather than educational. I particularly liked the balance between play and exercise. I just felt it was stuff I had been thinking was the right approach. So it was reassuring to realise I am on the right track
As a parent of a child struggling with handwriting, we worked through this guide together at home while on a waiting list for OT. We found it a very easy to follow systematic approach which allowed us to identify what his issues are and gave us exercises and strategies to help us support him. The exercises are short and fun, so engaging for children. I’ve shown it to his school and they too have bought their own copy. You can see the difference in his writing from starting the book to having worked our way through it.
Everything – I had no idea I knew so little it all completely made sense and I’m excited to take it all back.
Great ideas for activities to develop handwriting
I’ve learnt how to teach joined up handwriting.
I’ve enjoyed learning about left handed writers.
Practical useful activities that can actually be used in school. Good explanations of why children struggle to learn certain things.
A great impact as I now feel I am in a better position to assess handwriting and strategies to support them.
